President Bola Tinubu has approved the expansion of the Nigerian Army to 12 divisions in a major restructuring aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness and addressing contemporary security challenges.

The landmark decision was announced on Thursday by the Defence Headquarters.

The expansion is expected to improve command and control, facilitate better troop distribution, and ensure rapid response to threats across the country’s six geo-political zones.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Olatubosun, expressed gratitude to the President for the approval, describing it as a strategic move that will significantly boost the Army’s capacity.

“This restructuring will enable us to tackle insurgency, banditry, and other security threats more effectively while safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity,” he said.

Military analysts believe the expansion will lead to the creation of new formations and improved logistics support for troops in the field.

The development underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to strengthening the nation’s defence architecture.
