BREAKING: EMIR OF GUSAU, DR. IBRAHIM BELLO, PASSES AWAY AT 71
The Emir of Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has died at the age of 71 following a prolonged illness. He passed away on Friday in Abuja.
Dr. Bello, the 16th Emir of Gusau, ascended the throne in March 2015, succeeding his late father who died on March 16 of that year.
Before becoming Emir, he had a distinguished career as a civil servant, rising to the position of Permanent Secretary in the former Sokoto State and later in Zamfara State, serving in that capacity for over a decade.
His passing was confirmed by Sulaiman Idris, spokesperson to Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal. The governor expressed his deep sorrow, describing the late Emir as a committed traditional ruler who played a key role in the state’s development.
“I received with profound sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau,” the governor stated.
He extended his condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Gusau Emirate, and the late Emir’s family, emphasizing that the loss was not only for Zamfara but for the entire northern region and Nigeria at large.
“His Highness served faithfully as the 15th Emir of Gusau since March 16, 2015. His leadership was marked by dedication, integrity, and a deep sense of purpose,” the statement added.
Governor Lawal, who referred to the Emir as a personal confidant and father figure, prayed for Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannah (Paradise).
