BREAKING: DELE MOMODU QUITS PDP FOR ADC, BLAMES 'ANTIDEMOCRATIC FORCES' FOR EXIT
Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant, Chief Dele Momodu, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party's alleged takeover by "antidemocratic forces."
In a letter dated July 17, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of PDP Ward 4 in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu announced his immediate departure from the party. He described the move as a necessary step to uphold democratic values.
“My decision is simple and clear. The party has been shamelessly hijacked—both from within and outside—by antidemocratic forces in broad daylight,” he wrote.
Referring to the PDP as a “carcass,” Momodu said he could no longer remain in a party that he believes has lost its commitment to internal democracy. “It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” he declared.
Momodu, who vied for the PDP’s presidential ticket in the 2023 general elections, thanked his supporters within the party for their loyalty during his time there. “I will forever treasure the kind support you gave me at all times,” he said.
His defection comes amid growing unrest within the PDP, where recent months have seen a string of defections over concerns about leadership imposition and a weakening of internal democratic structures.
