BPSR DG CALLS FOR STRONGER ACCOUNTABILITY IN PUBLIC SERVICE
The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dasuki Arabi, has called for stronger institutions, accountability and improved coordination to strengthen Nigeria’s public service and emergency response system.
Arabi made the call at the 2026 Annual Emergency Response and Simulation Summit in Abuja, where he was honoured with an honorary fellowship for his contributions to public sector reforms and institutional development.
He said effective emergency management should not focus only on responding after incidents occur but should also involve building institutions that are prepared, responsive and resilient.
Arabi stressed the importance of real-time data and inter-agency cooperation, saying accurate and accessible information could improve early warning systems, resource allocation and decision-making.
The summit also featured the launch of the ECRMI Real-Time Disaster Data Management System Platform, designed to improve disaster data management and emergency response.
The BPSR boss said technology must be supported by institutional reforms, clearly defined responsibilities, appropriate skills and accountability frameworks.
He also urged stakeholders to maintain data integrity, security and responsible information sharing while promoting digital transformation and performance management.
Arabi called for a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach involving public institutions, communities, technology companies, academia, professional bodies and development partners.
He said the Bureau would continue supporting reforms aimed at improving institutional efficiency, accountability, innovation and public service delivery.
