The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Ayodeji Gbeleyi, has urged public servants to move beyond routine compliance and adopt reforms that improve services delivered to Nigerians.

Gbeleyi made the call in Abuja during the 2026 SERVICOM Day Symposium organised as part of the Bureau’s Servicom Week activities.

He said public servants should focus on solving real problems, protecting the public interest and improving the quality of government services.

According to him, responsible reform should produce measurable improvements rather than change for its own sake. He urged workers to simplify processes, communicate clearly, respond to complaints promptly and take responsibility for outcomes.

Gbeleyi said the BPE would continue working to provide reliable information, reduce unnecessary bottlenecks, deploy technology responsibly and ensure fairness and accountability in its operations.

He also encouraged workers to treat complaints and feedback as useful information for identifying weaknesses in government processes.

Governance expert Joe Abah, who delivered the keynote address, said SERVICOM was established in response to concerns about poor service delivery in Nigeria.

The BPE boss said consistent improvements in public service would help strengthen citizens’ confidence in government institutions.
