BLOGGER ARRESTED IN KOGI FOR ALLEGEDLY DEFAMING GOVERNOR ODODO
A blogger identified as Abdulhamid Deflowerboy has been arrested and remanded over alleged defamatory content against Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Reports say the blogger was invited by the police following a petition from the state government accusing him of publishing false and damaging information about the governor online. After appearing for questioning, he was formally arraigned in court and remanded.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, confirmed the arrest in a statement, stressing that the matter was handled legally. He explained that Abdulhamid voluntarily responded to the police invitation and admitted to writing the controversial posts.
Fanwo dismissed social media claims that the blogger was detained without trial, stating clearly that due process was followed. He also reminded the public that defamation is a criminal offense under Nigerian law, not a matter of free speech.
“Defamation can ruin reputations and damage years of hard work,” Fanwo said.
He also alleged that Abdulhamid was acting on behalf of political enemies who are unhappy with the direction of Governor Ododo’s administration.
“Unfortunately, he allowed himself to be used by bitter political elements who are uncomfortable with the governor’s reforms,” the commissioner added.
Fanwo used the opportunity to highlight Ododo’s achievements in areas like road construction, education, healthcare, and pension support, assuring citizens that the government remains focused on development.
Legal proceedings in the case are ongoing, and the state government has vowed to allow the court to determine the outcome.
