BITGET WALLET SAYS USERS UNAFFECTED BY EXCHANGE BREACH
Bitget Wallet has said its systems and users’ self-custodied assets were not affected by the recent security breach involving Bitget Exchange.
The self-custodial wallet made the clarification after precautionary security checks following the incident, which affected parts of Bitget Exchange’s hot and warm wallet infrastructure.
According to Bitget’s preliminary investigation, attackers compromised a backend system, manipulated transaction data and triggered the exchange’s authorisation process to execute unauthorised transfers. The company said its private keys were not compromised.
Bitget Exchange reported that about $351.6m in digital assets were affected by the incident, while its cold wallets remained secure. It also said customer funds were protected by its User Protection Fund.
Bitget Wallet operates separately from the exchange and uses a self-custodial model, meaning users control their own wallets and assets remain on-chain rather than being held in an exchange-controlled pool.
Following its security checks, Bitget Wallet said its services remained fully operational and that there was no need for users to migrate their wallets or transfer their assets because of the incident.
The wallet provider also warned users to remain alert to phishing and impersonation attempts following the security incident.
The clarification is intended to distinguish Bitget Wallet from the wallet infrastructure operated by Bitget Exchange, which was involved in the breach.
