The nomination of Dr. Timothy Yangien, an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law at Benue State University, has sparked a heated debate among alumni of the institution.

Governor Hyacinth Alia recently nominated Yangien for a commissioner role in his cabinet. While many see the move as a recognition of academic excellence and homegrown leadership, not everyone is pleased.

A group within the university’s Law alumni has voiced strong opposition, even going as far as petitioning the Benue State House of Assembly to challenge the nomination. Although their reasons have not been fully made public, sources suggest internal politics and concerns over representation may be at play.

Meanwhile, other former students and supporters of Yangien have praised the governor's decision, describing the nominee as competent, experienced, and deserving of the position.

The controversy has created a clear divide among alumni, with debates ongoing on various social media platforms and private alumni forums.

As the House of Assembly reviews the petition and prepares for possible screening, all eyes remain on whether Dr. Yangien will weather the storm and make it into Governor Alia’s cabinet.
