BENUE PDP REP, OJOTU OJEMA, DUMPS PARTY FOR APC AFTER DEEP INTERNAL CRISIS
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has lost its only member in the House of Representatives, Pastor Ojotu Ojema, following his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ojema, who represents the Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency and serves as Chairman of the House Committee on National Inland Waterways, announced his decision on Thursday, October 9, 2025, during a meeting with PDP executives in Obagaji, Agatu Local Government Area.
Speaking at the event, the lawmaker explained that his decision came after extensive consultations with his family, political associates, and constituents. He attributed his defection to persistent internal crises within the PDP at both national and state levels.
“The PDP has been engulfed in internal wrangling that has made it difficult for the party to function cohesively. I cannot remain in a system that stifles progress and unity,” Ojema stated.
He further noted that his move to the ruling APC was guided by divine direction and a renewed commitment to deliver development and democratic dividends to his people.
“I believe this step will open new opportunities for Apa and Agatu, as we align with a party that controls the federal government,” he added.
Ojema’s defection marks another major blow to the PDP’s influence in Benue, particularly as the state continues to witness shifting political allegiances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
