BENUE PDP HOLDS EXPANDED CAUCUS MEETING, SETS SIGHTS ON 2027 ELECTIONS
The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday convened an expanded caucus meeting in Makurdi, bringing together party leaders and stakeholders to discuss strategies aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the meeting, the leader of the PDP in the state and former governor, Samuel Ortom, briefed members on the current state of affairs within the party and outlined key preparations for the upcoming elections.
Ortom informed the caucus that the internal crisis that had previously divided the party and resulted in legal battles had now been resolved following a judgment by the Court of Appeal. He added that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities had since recognized the caretaker committee led by Abduhraman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu.
He also disclosed that the party’s electronic registration exercise would begin on March 16, 2026, and run for two weeks, after which the updated e-register would be submitted to INEC.
Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, Ortom said the resolution of the internal disputes had placed the PDP in a strong position to achieve significant success in the 2027 elections.
In his remarks, the Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, stated that the PDP remained determined to reclaim power in Benue State in 2027. He criticized the current administration, arguing that the governor had not fulfilled his primary responsibility of ensuring the safety and protection of residents.
Moro emphasized that the issue at stake was not about any individual or ethnic group but about the collective interest of the people of Benue. He further alleged that the governor had neglected the entire zone, noting that his presence had not been significantly felt in the area.
He also urged PDP members not to be intimidated by the “No Alia, No Benue” group, stressing that the current governor was neither the first nor would he be the last to lead the state.
The Benue PDP State Chairman, Ezekiel Adaji, expressed appreciation to members and supporters of the party, including allies from the All Progressives Congress (APC), who had joined a strategic partnership aimed at reclaiming the state in 2027.
Adaji also condemned the attack on the party’s media consultant, Bemgba Iortyom, and called on the state government to fulfill its constitutional responsibility of ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Benue State.
