A young farmer in Tse-Iordye, Ndzorov Council Ward, Guma LGA of Benue State, is fighting for his life after being attacked by suspected armed herdsmen.

The victim, who was working on his farm at the time, sustained grievous injuries. His finger was amputated during the assault, he suffered deep cuts on his arm that severed veins, and he also sustained serious head wounds.

Medical personnel treating him described his condition as critical, giving his chances of survival as “50-50.”

Eyewitnesses said the farmer was first taken to the police divisional headquarters in Gbajimba, before being rushed to a hospital, where doctors are battling to stabilize him.

The attack has sparked fresh outrage and fear among locals, who are calling on both the state and federal governments to urgently address the recurring violence in Benue.

Over the years, repeated clashes and attacks by armed herdsmen have left scores dead and thousands displaced, with rural communities bearing the brunt of the crisis.
