Olamide: It’s Easier Being a Music Executive Than an Artist

Popular Nigerian rapper and YBNL boss, Olamide, has revealed that he finds life behind the scenes as a music executive much easier than being in the spotlight as an artist.

In a recent chat with YouTuber Korty EO, the music star shared insights into his transition from solely being a performer to running one of Nigeria’s biggest record labels. According to Olamide, his experience as an artist has given him a unique advantage in understanding and managing other creatives.

“It’s way much easier for me being a music executive than an artist because I’m an artist,” Olamide said.
“I know the way we think, I know when we want to run mad, when we’re getting high on fame, life, money, and success. So, it’s easier for me to deal with creatives.”

The rapper also mentioned that he avoids taking on too much, saying he tries not to bite more than he can chew, a lesson he’s learned from navigating the pressures of fame and leadership in the industry.

Speaking on the often-debated topic of rappers switching to singing, Olamide made it clear that he doesn’t believe in being boxed into one style.

“You can’t box me and call me a rapper— I love music,” he said.

Olamide’s honest take reflects not just his evolution as an artist but also his growing role in shaping the next generation of Nigerian music stars. From the likes of Fireboy DML to Asake, it’s clear that his understanding of the music game — both as an artist and executive — continues to pay off.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
