Be Financially and Mentally Stable Before Marriage — Chiwetalu Agu Advises Nigerian Women

Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has shared a powerful message to Nigerian women, urging them to build financial, mental, and spiritual stability before venturing into marriage.

In a video posted on his Instagram page, the actor emphasized that marriage should not define a woman’s worth or completeness. He encouraged women to develop themselves and ensure they have something meaningful to fall back on before saying “I do.”

“The best advice I can give you as a lady before you embark on the journey of marriage is to be a complete woman before you marry,” Agu said. “Make sure you are mentally, physically, spiritually, and financially stable before you marry. Emphasis on being financially and spiritually stable.”

The movie star noted that marriage should complement, not complete a woman’s life.

“It is not marriage that completes you as a woman. Your work, identity, or sense of completeness does not depend on being married. You don’t need marriage to feel whole or fulfilled,” he continued.

Agu further advised women to acquire skills, businesses, or viable means of independence before marriage, warning that dependence could lead to vulnerability in difficult situations.

“Even if you are not yet financially stable, make sure you have a handwork or a business idea. God forbid your husband divorces you or passes away, and you have nothing to rely on — that will make life very hard,” he said.

He concluded by urging women to prepare for life and marriage with wisdom, adding that self-reliance and stability are key to surviving and thriving in today’s world.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
