BAYELSA STATE GOVERNMENT DEBUNKS NEMBE-BRASS BRIDGE COLLAPSE RUMOUR, CONFIRMS PROJECT IS 85% COMPLETE
Ministry officials and project contractors refute viral social media reports, confirming structural integrity of bridge columns and reaffirming March–April 2027 delivery timeline
The Bayelsa State Government has dismissed viral social media reports alleging the collapse of bridge columns along the ongoing Nembe-Brass road project, clarifying that the 21-kilometre first phase of the critical transport corridor is 85 percent complete.
Following an on-the-spot assessment of the project site in the state's Eastern Senatorial District, senior government officials, including the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, confirmed that active construction works are progressing without structural defects. Project engineers clarified that heavy equipment required for the installation of pre-cast concrete beams is already positioned on-site as the contractor prepares for the next phase of bridge construction.
Addressing journalists at the site, officials condemned the false claims as baseless misinformation designed to mislead the public. Project representative Mr. Beredugo reaffirmed the contractor's commitment to quality standards, stating that construction funding from Governor Douye Diri's administration remains seamless, with commissioning targeted for March or April 2027.
The Nembe-Brass road project, executed under the state’s signature infrastructure development agenda, is designed to link coastal island communities to the mainland, stimulate maritime commerce, and significantly curb sea piracy along the waterways. State authorities urged citizens and media outlets to verify technical developments through official government channels rather than unverified digital rumors.
