BAUCHI POLICE ARREST MAN OVER FATAL SHOOTING OF NEIGHBOUR
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Jabir Yusuf, over the alleged shooting of his neighbour, Hassan Mohamed, also 25, in Toro Local Government Area of the state. The incident occurred on Monday at Rinjin Gura village, through Zalau Ward, where the suspect allegedly fired a Dane gun that struck Mohamed in the neck and caused fatal injuries.
According to the police, the incident was reported at the Rishi Divisional Police Station by a resident of Zalau Ward. Following the report, operatives from the Gumau Division were mobilised to the scene and rushed the injured victim to Toro General Hospital for medical attention. However, medical personnel reportedly confirmed that Mohamed had died from the injuries sustained in the shooting.
The police said the deceased’s remains were subsequently released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites. The firearm allegedly used in the incident was also recovered by the authorities and kept as an exhibit. The suspect, Yusuf, was taken into custody as investigators began efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and determine what led to the fatal encounter between the two neighbours.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for a more detailed investigation. Police authorities said the investigation would be conducted discreetly, with the possibility of prosecution after the necessary evidence has been gathered. The development comes as the command continues to address incidents involving the illegal or improper use of firearms across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances of Mohamed’s death and directed the relevant officers to ensure that the matter is properly handled. The command is expected to establish the sequence of events leading to the shooting and take appropriate legal action based on the outcome of the investigation.
