BAUCHI APC LOSES MORE MEMBERS AMID CRISIS

Several prominent members of the All Progressives Congress in Bauchi State have resigned from the party amid unresolved disagreements over its 2027 governorship primary.

Those who recently left include former Deputy Governor Sagir Saleh, former two-time governorship aspirant Bala Jibrin and Sunusi Kunde, a close associate of Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate.

The affected members have raised concerns about alleged injustice, lack of internal democracy and the imposition of candidates during the party’s primaries.

Saleh, who served as deputy governor under former Governor Isa Yuguda, resigned in a letter dated August 19, citing personal reasons. Jibrin followed with his resignation on August 31, accusing the party of ignoring the views of members and imposing candidates.

Jibrin had opposed the emergence of former Governor Muhammad Abubakar as the APC’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election, alleging that the primary process was manipulated.

The latest resignations came despite reconciliation efforts led by former House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara and the party’s state reconciliation committee.

The APC state publicity secretary, Shehu Dauda, said members were free to leave if they were dissatisfied, adding that the party had continued engaging some aggrieved members in an effort to restore unity.

The departures add to growing concerns about the APC’s ability to resolve its internal disagreements before the 2027 elections.
