BASSEY CELEBRATES FIRST GOAL FOR SUPER EAGLES IN DRAW AGAINST SOUTH AFRICA
Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey is over the moon after scoring his first-ever goal for Nigeria in their 1-1 draw with South Africa on Tuesday night.
The Fulham star found the back of the net with a powerful header from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s pinpoint cross just before half-time at the Toyota Stadium. His equalizer ensured the Super Eagles avoided defeat against the Bafana Bafana.
Sharing his excitement on social media, the 25-year-old described the moment as a huge honor and promised that the team will keep pushing hard in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Honoured to wear this shirt and score my first goal. We didn’t win but we keep believing. If anyone can do it, it is God,” Bassey wrote.
Bassey, who previously played for Rangers in Scotland, has now made 32 appearances for the Super Eagles and continues to grow as a key figure in the squad.
