BARCELONA REGISTERS JOAN GARCíA AFTER TER STEGEN’S LONG-TERM INJURY
Barcelona have confirmed that LaLiga has approved the registration of new goalkeeper Joan García for the 2025/26 season following Marc-André ter Stegen’s placement on the long-term injury list.
The approval helps ease Barcelona’s salary cap pressure and allows them to add players without violating financial fair play regulations.
The decision comes after weeks of tension between Ter Stegen and the club. The German goalkeeper, who underwent lower back surgery in July, initially refused to sign the medical report required for LaLiga’s confirmation. Ter Stegen estimated his recovery time at three months, but Barcelona believed the layoff would be longer.
As a result, the 33-year-old has now officially been listed as a long-term injury absentee, paving the way for García’s registration.
With García now eligible to play, Barcelona hope to maintain stability between the posts as they navigate the first half of the season without their captain.
