The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has donated N100 million to traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Singer Market in Kano.

Jibrin visited the market on Sunday, a day after the inferno destroyed goods and property valued at billions of naira. He was received by the Chairman of the Singer Market Development Association, Alhaji Junaidu Zakari, along with numerous traders who suffered losses in the incident.

He said the donation was meant to ease the hardship faced by victims whose sources of livelihood were wiped out by the fire. According to him, the tragedy has affected not only the traders but also the people of Kano and the nation, noting that commerce remains the backbone of the state’s economy.

The Deputy Senate President also pledged to support the installation of a modern fire-control system in the market to prevent future disasters and strengthen emergency response.

In his remarks, Zakari revealed that the market had experienced two major fire outbreaks in recent times, with losses exceeding N5 billion. He expressed gratitude for the visit and financial assistance, describing the intervention as timely and reassuring.

Jibrin was accompanied by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata; the Kano State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Malam Salisu Sagir Takai; members of the Kano State House of Assembly; special advisers; and other aides.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
