Tragedy struck Kafin Maiyaki community in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano State on Wednesday night when armed bandits launched a violent attack, leaving one person dead and several others in distress.

According to reports shared by security analyst Bakatsine on X (formerly Twitter), the gunmen stormed the community under the cover of darkness, targeting the residence of Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmad Rufai, chairman of the local traders’ association.

The attackers abducted Rufai’s wives and whisked them away to an unknown location. In the course of the invasion, a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), who attempted to defend the community, was shot dead.

Bakatsine wrote:

“Yesterday night, bandits attacked Kafin Maiyaki community in Kiru LGA, Kano State; they killed one VGN member and abducted the wives of Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmad Rufai, chairman of Kafin Maiyaki traders’ association.”

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies and authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

The attack has left residents gripped with fear as calls for stronger community protection and government intervention grow louder.
