A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ayo Arise, has congratulated former Ekiti State Governor, Chief Segun Oni, on his 72nd birthday, describing the former governor as a prominent figure whose contributions have remained relevant to the political development of Ekiti State and Nigeria.

In a birthday message, Arise prayed for continued good health, strength and wisdom for Oni, while expressing confidence that the former governor would continue to contribute to the growth and development of the state and the country. He also joined other political stakeholders in celebrating Oni as he marked the milestone.

Oni governed Ekiti State from 2007 until 2010, when his tenure was brought to an end following a Court of Appeal ruling that ordered a rerun in parts of the state over issues arising from the disputed 2007 governorship election. His time in office remains an important chapter in the political history of the state.

The former governor, who trained as an engineer before venturing fully into politics, has remained active in Nigerian politics since leaving the Ekiti Government House. His political career has seen him occupy positions at both state and national levels, including serving as a National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party before later becoming associated with the APC.

Oni's 72nd birthday has also provided an opportunity for political leaders and other stakeholders to reflect on his years of public service. Among those who have celebrated him are members of the APC and Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who have highlighted his contributions to the state's political evolution and development.

Arise's message adds to the growing tributes surrounding the former governor, with the APC chieftain urging him to continue offering his experience and knowledge to the development of Ekiti State and Nigeria.

The birthday celebration comes at a time when political activities are already gaining momentum ahead of Nigeria's next electoral cycle, making the experience and influence of veteran politicians such as Oni significant within the state's political landscape.
