ATIKU, AMAECHI MEET OVER ADC COALITION, VOW TO CONFRONT APC ‘IMPUNITY’
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi have held a strategic meeting as part of efforts to strengthen the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition ahead of future political realignments.
The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, was disclosed by Atiku’s Special Adviser, Eta Uso, in a post on X accompanied by a video showing both politicians alongside other stakeholders.
Uso said the discussions focused on unity within the coalition and its shared political direction, stressing that the alliance remained intact.
“H.E. Atiku Abubakar has just concluded a strategic meeting with former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi. The ADC coalition remains united and resolute,” he wrote.
He added that the coalition was committed to defending democracy and would challenge what it described as excesses of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The alignment is firm, and our collective commitment to defending democracy is unwavering. The impunity of the APC-led federal government will be confronted decisively and lawfully,” he added.
The meeting comes amid ongoing political restructuring within opposition blocs as parties and alliances position themselves ahead of future elections.
The ADC coalition has recently faced internal disputes over leadership structures, prompting legal intervention.
Earlier, the Federal High Court in Abuja reportedly restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising or engaging with a disputed caretaker leadership faction within the party.
Political observers say such meetings reflect early manoeuvring by opposition figures seeking to consolidate influence ahead of the 2027 election cycle, as alignments and counter-alignments continue to shape Nigeria’s political landscape.
