Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused governors of the All Progressives Congress of allegedly diverting public funds to finance preparations for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

In a statement issued through his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku alleged that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is working in collaboration with some state governors to channel public resources into what he described as dedicated accounts meant for political mobilisation ahead of the next general election.

He claimed that funds which should ordinarily be used for governance, development projects, and public welfare were instead being redirected for campaign activities, a situation he said is worsening economic hardship across the country.

According to Atiku, the alleged financial practices are contributing to rising poverty levels, deepening insecurity, and growing frustration among citizens already struggling with the high cost of living.

He argued that the situation reflects a broader pattern of mismanagement of national resources, insisting that the effects are being felt directly by ordinary Nigerians.

Atiku was quoted as saying: “The Tinubu-led APC administration is in cahoots with APC governors to divert your resources to dedicated accounts for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign.”

He further suggested that ongoing tensions within the Progressive Governors’ Forum stem from disagreements over the control and allocation of the alleged funds being diverted for political purposes.

The former vice president also warned Nigerians against supporting the ruling party in the next election cycle, arguing that continued backing would amount to endorsing worsening economic conditions.

He maintained that citizens must hold leaders accountable for the state of the economy, stressing that public resources should be strictly used for governance rather than political ambitions.

The allegations add to ongoing political exchanges between opposition figures and the ruling party as attention gradually shifts toward preparations for the 2027 general elections.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
