In a recent statement, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has lauded the bravery of Ushie Uguamaye, a Lagos-based National Youth Service Corps member, who faced backlash for her outspoken criticism of President Bola Tinubu's administration regarding the nation's economic challenges.

On his X account, Atiku commended Uguamaye, known as Raye on social media, as a beacon of a new generation of Nigerian women who fearlessly advocate for transparency and accountability in governance. He likened her boldness to that of legendary female activists who fought for social justice in Nigeria's past.

Atiku praised Raye for her unwavering stance in speaking truth to power despite facing criticism and intimidation. He emphasized that voices like hers should be celebrated rather than silenced.

"Raye represents a new generation of women who champion popular participation and unwavering advocacy in politics," Atiku said. "I deeply admire her boldness and wisdom—her fearless resolve to speak truth to power, undeterred by opposition."

Uguamaye's viral video, in which she labelled President Tinubu a "terrible leader" and questioned the government's efforts to address economic hardship, sparked widespread attention. She also described Lagos State as having poor living conditions and odour issues. Following the video's circulation, she alleged receiving threats from NYSC officials, prompting her to express concerns for her safety123.

Amnesty International and other human rights advocates have condemned the alleged threats against Uguamaye, urging the government to prioritize addressing economic challenges rather than intimidating critics

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
