The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced negotiations with the Federal Government regarding the ongoing strike action.

The update was contained in Strike Bulletin No. 2 issued by the National Strike Coordinating Committee (NSCC) and signed by Dr. Christopher Piwuna over the weekend.

The development follows ASUU’s declaration of a two-week warning strike last Monday, which has disrupted academic activities across public universities in Nigeria.

Providing an update, the union noted that its members remain united and committed to the ongoing struggle.

ASUU also highlighted areas of progress in the discussions, including the release of third-party deductions, payment of promotion arrears, integration of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) into the salary structure, and the resolution of issues surrounding the seizure of the University of Abuja land. The union also mentioned progress on cases of alleged victimisation of members at Kogi State University (KSU), Lagos State University (LASU), and the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).

“Our members have demonstrated remarkable dedication to the cause. We must remain united and resolute in the days ahead,” the statement added.

The two-week warning strike is scheduled to conclude next Monday.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
