ASR AFRICA WRAPS UP EMPOWERING MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME FOR FEMALE STUDENTS AT BABCOCK UNIVERSITY
The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has successfully concluded the fourth edition of its impactful three-month mentorship programme at Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State. The initiative, which focused on equipping final-year female students for life after university, ended with a heartfelt closing ceremony held on campus.
Launched on May 27, 2025, the programme was specifically designed to help young women transition smoothly into the professional world. It offered structured mentorship across key areas like career planning, financial literacy, time management, mental health, and leadership. Participants were drawn from various academic disciplines, ensuring a diverse and enriching experience.
Throughout the programme, students engaged in both group sessions and one-on-one mentoring with experienced professionals and faculty members. These mentors, who come from sectors including public policy, media, entrepreneurship, and advocacy, shared insights and practical tools to help the mentees grow personally and professionally.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Dr. Ubon Udoh, Managing Director and CEO of ASR Africa, praised the participants and expressed his optimism about the impact of the programme. He also commended Babcock University’s management for integrating the mentorship initiative into the institution’s extracurricular framework.
“This programme is more than just a learning experience—it’s a journey that prepares young women for the realities of life after graduation. We’re proud of what these students have achieved and confident that they are better equipped to face the world with purpose and confidence,” Dr. Udoh said.
The ceremony not only celebrated the mentees' growth and achievements but also highlighted the power of mentorship in shaping future leaders. The students shared glowing feedback, noting how the programme helped clarify their goals and build valuable life skills.
ASR Africa’s mentorship initiative has previously been implemented at other institutions including the Federal College of Education (Technical) in Gusau, Alqalam University in Katsina State, and the University of Zambia (UNZA), demonstrating the programme's wide reach and relevance across Africa.
