ASABA RESIDENTS PROTEST REPEATED TRANSFORMER CONTRIBUTIONS AMID POWER OUTAGE

Residents of some communities in Asaba, Delta State, have protested persistent power outages and what they described as repeated demands for money to repair or replace faulty electricity transformers.

The residents said they have been without a stable electricity supply for an extended period, forcing many households and businesses to depend on generators for power.

According to the protesters, residents have repeatedly contributed money for transformer repairs and other electricity-related expenses, yet the communities continue to experience prolonged blackouts.

They expressed frustration over the financial burden, questioning why consumers are often required to raise funds for infrastructure they believe should be maintained by electricity distribution companies.

The protesters called on the relevant authorities and electricity distribution company to urgently restore power and address the challenges affecting the transformers serving their communities.

Some residents said the lack of electricity has negatively affected businesses, increased spending on fuel and disrupted daily activities.

They urged the government and power sector authorities to investigate the repeated transformer levies and ensure consumers are not subjected to unnecessary financial demands.

The residents maintained that access to reliable electricity remains essential to the growth of businesses and the welfare of households in the state.
