ASA ASIKA: A WIZKID & DAVIDO COLLAB COULD HAVE MADE AFROBEATS EVEN BIGGER
Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, has stirred up fresh conversation among Afrobeats fans with his recent comments about what could have been if Nigeria’s biggest stars had joined forces. In a viral video making the rounds, Asika shared his view that Afrobeats might have reached even greater global heights if top acts like Wizkid, Davido, and others had collaborated more.
“Our genre would’ve been bigger if Wizkid, Davido and everybody who was popping at that point were all collaborating,” Asika said. “I might be wrong, but the probability of our genre being bigger, more successful, even stronger in terms of ticket values and shows would be there.”
His remarks have sparked plenty of debate online. Many fans agreed, imagining how a powerful joint track from Afrobeats heavyweights could have pulled even bigger international crowds and pushed ticket sales through the roof. Others argued that each artist has already done an incredible job putting Afrobeats on the world map, with or without frequent collaborations.
Whether or not a Wizkid-Davido track would have been the magic bullet for the genre, there’s no denying how far Afrobeats has come—drawing massive audiences worldwide and putting Nigerian music at the heart of global pop culture. For now, fans can keep hoping that someday, these giants might finally drop a song together and give the world the collaboration it’s been dreaming of.
