ARSENAL TO APPEAL DOWMAN’S RED CARD
Arsenal are set to appeal the red card shown to teenage winger Max Dowman during their Carabao Cup defeat to Fleetwood Town, hoping to overturn the decision and make the youngster available for upcoming fixtures.
The 16-year-old was sent off late in Tuesday’s fourth-round encounter after an altercation with Fleetwood midfielder Harrison Neal. The incident occurred in the closing stages of the match and sparked a confrontation between players from both sides.
Arsenal were eliminated after the match ended 1-1, with Fleetwood winning 5-3 on penalties to secure a memorable victory over the Premier League side.
Dowman could face a three-match domestic suspension if Arsenal’s appeal is unsuccessful, potentially ruling him out of upcoming league fixtures.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta appeared frustrated following the dismissal but declined to discuss the incident in detail before reviewing the footage.
The club’s appeal reflects the importance of the young winger as Arsenal manage their squad during a demanding period of the season. Dowman has attracted attention for his performances and is considered one of the club’s promising young talents.
Arsenal will hope the relevant authorities reconsider the decision and allow the teenager to return to action without serving the proposed suspension.
The outcome of the appeal could affect the club’s preparations for its upcoming matches as the Gunners seek to maintain momentum in the Premier League.
