ARSENAL, LIVERPOOL ADVANCE AS CARABAO CUP DELIVERS ANOTHER NIGHT OF GOALS
Arsenal and Liverpool secured their places in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night after both Premier League sides recorded victories in the third round. Arsenal defeated Ipswich Town 4-2 at Portman Road, while Liverpool overcame Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Anfield in two of the night's headline fixtures.
At Portman Road, 16-year-old Max Dowman was the standout performer for Arsenal, scoring twice as Mikel Arteta's side progressed to the next round. Noni Madueke and Mikel Merino were also on the scoresheet for the Gunners, while Ipswich responded through Anis Mehmeti and Chuba Akpom. Dowman's performance attracted significant attention as Arsenal continued their cup campaign.
Liverpool also booked their place in the fourth round after beating Tottenham 3-1. Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring before Cody Gakpo doubled Liverpool's advantage early in the second half. Tottenham pulled one back through Conor Gallagher, but Dominik Szoboszlai sealed the victory with a long-range strike in stoppage time.
Fulham produced another notable result by defeating West Ham United 3-2. Oscar Bobb scored the decisive goal in the 78th minute after West Ham had twice fought back to level the contest. Brentford also progressed with a 2-1 victory over Reading, while Peterborough United edged Barnsley 7-6 on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw.
The remaining third-round fixtures are being played on different dates due to the clubs' European commitments. The competition will continue with the fourth-round draw following the completion of the remaining fixtures, as the surviving teams look to move closer to Wembley and the Carabao Cup trophy.
