AROKODARE SCORES AGAIN BUT AJAX FALL TO PSV IN EREDIVISIE CLASH

Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare continued his impressive start to life at Ajax by scoring against PSV Eindhoven, but his effort was not enough to prevent his side from suffering a 3-1 defeat in the Eredivisie. The Nigerian forward found the net at the Johan Cruijff Arena on Saturday as PSV secured an important away victory.

PSV opened the scoring just four minutes into the encounter when Ricardo Pepi finished from close range after Ruben van Bommel headed Ivan Perisic’s cross across the face of goal. Ajax responded through Arokodare in the 23rd minute, with the striker producing a low effort that found the far corner to bring the hosts level.

The goal extended Arokodare’s scoring streak to four consecutive matches for Ajax and took his tally for the club to five goals since arriving on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers. His latest performances have strengthened his case for a return to the Super Eagles setup, with the forward continuing to make an impact in the Netherlands.

PSV, however, regained the advantage just before half-time when Lutsharel Geertruida marked his debut for the visitors by volleying home from a corner. Ajax struggled to find a way back after the interval, while PSV eventually added a third goal to complete the 3-1 victory and claim the bragging rights in the Eredivisie encounter.

Despite Ajax’s defeat, Arokodare’s continued scoring form represents a major positive for the Nigerian forward. After also scoring in Ajax’s 4-0 victory over Telstar the previous weekend, the striker has quickly established himself as an important attacking option and will be hoping to maintain his momentum in the coming fixtures.
