ARMY RESCUES KIDNAP VICTIM IN ABIA
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 14 Brigade under Operation UDO KA have rescued a kidnap victim and intensified security operations across Abia State in a renewed crackdown on criminal groups.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Mazinho Attah, the Army said soldiers from the 145 Battalion, in collaboration with Operation Crush and the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, carried out an intelligence-led operation in Umuahia.
According to the statement, the operation led to the rescue of a kidnap victim identified as Mr Onyebuchi Nwaoha, who was earlier abducted by armed men.
The Army said the rescued victim and some arrested suspects are currently in custody for further investigation as security operatives continue efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the state.
“The operation was conducted under Operation EASTERN SANITY II. Troops have maintained a heavy presence along major routes and vulnerable communities, including the ABSU–Okigwe–Ihube Road, the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, and parts of Umunneochi, Bende, Isiala Ngwa, Ukwa East, Ukwa West, Umuahia, and Arochukwu Local Government Areas,” the statement read.
The Army noted that the operations target IPOB/ESN elements and other criminal groups while also seeking to curb the unauthorized use of explosives.
It added that troops stationed at Osisioma in Aba responded to a shooting incident on Brass Street in the GRA area, where they discovered the body of an unidentified man allegedly attacked by gunmen.
“Emergency responders evacuated the body, and investigations to apprehend the attackers are ongoing,” the statement added.
The Army further disclosed that coordinated night patrols and “stand-to” operations were conducted in several strategic locations, including Isiugu, Akanu-Ukwu, Ameakpo, Nguzu, Arochukwu, and Bende communities.
Security officials said the affected areas remained calm during the operations.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security across the region.
“This successful operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to neutralizing threats, safeguarding communities, and ensuring peace and stability across the region,” the statement said.
Residents were also urged to support ongoing security efforts by reporting suspicious activities and rejecting violent or separatist ideologies.
