Troops of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper during a targeted operation in Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was apprehended on Saturday, September 12, at Obaretin Community along the Benin-Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Benin, Kennedy Anyanwu. According to the statement, the operation was part of ongoing efforts by the troops to disrupt criminal activities and protect major transportation routes in the area, particularly along the Benin-Sapele corridor.

During the operation, the soldiers reportedly recovered an AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition from the suspect. Other items recovered included a Tecno mobile phone, two bags, a torchlight, a music box and assorted charms, according to the Army.

The Army said Oyeniyi and the recovered items remain in its custody as investigations continue. Authorities are also working to establish whether the suspect has links with other criminal elements and determine his possible involvement in kidnapping and related criminal activities along the route.

The 4 Brigade said the Army would continue operations aimed at restricting the activities of criminals and improving the safety of communities and major transportation corridors across Edo State. It also said it would sustain cooperation with other security agencies as part of efforts to strengthen security in the state.
