An Ibadan-based journalist, Ojo Peter, has reportedly been shot dead by armed robbers in the Oyo State capital.

Peter, who was a former reporter with Parrot Extra newspaper, later established his own online news platform before the tragic incident.

He was said to have been attacked in broad daylight along the Molete–Oke Ado axis of Ibadan on August 18, 2025. His death was only announced on Sunday through a WhatsApp group of members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Oyo State.

The late announcement left many colleagues puzzled, as the incident occurred weeks earlier but was only made public in September.

Speaking to journalists, the deceased’s younger brother, Enahoro Peter, explained that Ojo was shot around 2:00 p.m. on the Molete–Oke Ado road.

“On the day he was shot, I got a call from a police officer at Orita Challenge saying our brother was at their station. But when I arrived, I was told he had been shot by a notorious robber operating on a motorcycle. That was how we discovered he was gone. He had only stepped out in search of daily bread for his family. He was healthy and full of life, but it was cut short by a robber’s bullet in broad daylight,” he lamented.

Efforts to obtain an official response from the Oyo State Police Command were unsuccessful as of Monday.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
