APROKO DOCTOR: HOW OUR CONVERSATIONS SHAPE CULTURE AND BEHAVIOUR
Popular health advocate and social media personality, Aproko Doctor, has highlighted the powerful role that everyday conversations, beliefs, and storytelling play in shaping human behaviour and the culture of society.
Speaking recently, the medical doctor—whose real name is Dr. Chinonso Egemba—explained that much of what people do today is rooted in the stories and beliefs passed down from one generation to the next.
“When you look at the behaviours we currently see in society, they were shaped by the beliefs and stories we’ve told ourselves over time,” he said. “They were built by the conversations people have—whether through life experiences or matters of the heart.”
Aproko Doctor stressed that culture is not created in isolation. Instead, it grows from communal conversations and shared values. According to him, the dominant culture in any place is simply a reflection of what people are discussing and what they hold dear.
“If you examine the prevailing culture in a particular place, look at what is in their hearts and the conversations they are having. Those are the elements that shape behaviour,” he explained. “So, if we can influence what people are talking about, we can influence how they behave—it’s all about how the message is told.”
Well-known for breaking down complex health issues into relatable, easy-to-understand messages for the average Nigerian, Aproko Doctor continues to use his platforms to spark important conversations around health, lifestyle, and social values.
His message is clear: if we want to build healthier communities and positive social habits, we must start by changing the stories we tell and the conversations we have every day.
