There was tension along the Ibeju Bridge on the Epe Expressway, Lagos, on Thursday after an empty gas tanker overturned, completely blocking the road and causing severe traffic congestion.
Fortunately, no casualties were recorded in the incident.
To manage the situation, the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) announced an immediate traffic diversion to ease gridlock and ensure public safety.
According to LASTMA’s advisory:
“For motorists inbound from Inner Epe, Marina, Begger, and Oko Orisan heading to the Island, please divert via:
T-Junction → Oke-Osho → Tokin → Agbowa → Imota
Reconnect through Ikorodu Road to proceed to the Mainland.”
Similarly, motorists coming from Lekki, Ajah, Victoria Island, and Law School en route to Epe were advised to:
“Divert via Ikorodu Road → Ikorodu → Tokin, and continue your journey from there.”
Recovery Efforts Underway
Officials of LASTMA, in collaboration with emergency response agencies, are currently on-site working to evacuate the tanker and restore normal traffic flow on the bridge.
The agency noted that it is awaiting the arrival of a crane machine to remove the tanker, adding that the vehicle owner has assured that the equipment is on the way.
Safety Reminder:
Motorists are urged to:
Remain patient,
Exercise caution, and
Cooperate fully with traffic officers on duty.
LASTMA said further updates will be provided once the evacuation and traffic clearance are completed.
