APPLE ENTERS FOLDABLE PHONE MARKET WITH NEW IPHONE DUO

Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the launch of the iPhone Duo, its first-ever foldable iPhone and one of the company’s biggest design changes in years. The device was unveiled by newly appointed Chief Executive Officer John Ternus during Apple’s September product event, marking his first major launch since taking over from Tim Cook.

The iPhone Duo features a 5.4-inch outer display when closed and expands into a 7.6-inch inner screen when opened. Apple said the device combines the portability of a conventional smartphone with a larger display designed for multitasking, gaming and viewing content. The phone is powered by the new A20 Pro chip and uses a dual-battery system alongside an advanced cooling system to support demanding tasks.

Apple has also equipped the foldable device with a titanium frame, a redesigned hinge and an advanced camera system. The company says the hardware and software were developed together to provide a smoother foldable experience, while iOS 27 has been adapted to take advantage of the larger display. The device will also support Apple Intelligence and new AI-powered Siri features.

The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, making it one of Apple’s most expensive smartphones. Pre-orders are scheduled to begin on October 16, with the device expected to become available from October 23. Apple is offering the phone in Star White and Night Sky, with storage options extending up to 2TB.

The launch represents a major shift for Apple as it attempts to strengthen its position in the growing foldable-phone market. It also gives Ternus an early opportunity to establish his leadership style following his appointment as CEO, with the iPhone Duo positioned as a major test of Apple’s ability to introduce a new product category while maintaining its premium smartphone image.
