The Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON) has appealed to the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, to extend the validity period of clearing agents’ licenses from one year to two years.

In a message congratulating the CG on his second year in office, APFFLON President, Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, said the extension would ease administrative stress for freight forwarders, allowing them to concentrate more on their core duties and improve service delivery.

Ogunojemite added that the proposed reform could promote better compliance with regulations and foster a stronger culture of professionalism within the industry.

“We warmly congratulate CG Adeniyi on his outstanding leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service. His tenure has brought notable progress and a commitment to improving customs operations nationwide,” Ogunojemite stated.

“In support of his vision for a more efficient customs system, we recommend extending the validity of freight forwarders’ licenses to two years. This initiative would be a lasting achievement, reducing bureaucratic pressure, boosting operational efficiency, and encouraging regulatory adherence.”

He emphasized that a more structured licensing policy could drive growth in the freight forwarding industry, ultimately strengthening Nigeria’s logistics and trade sectors.

“Longer license validity offers greater stability, which could attract more investment into the sector, enhance capacity, and improve infrastructure. A solid licensing framework is essential to industry development,” he added.

Ogunojemite concluded by expressing optimism that CG Adeniyi would embrace the proposal as part of his lasting legacy, and looked forward to further progress in the customs and freight forwarding sectors under his guidance.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
