APC WILL REMAIN STRONG BEYOND TINUBU’S PRESIDENCY – YILWATDA
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has dismissed concerns about the party’s future after President Bola Tinubu leaves office, asserting that the APC possesses the structure and leadership capacity to endure.
Yilwatda made the remarks on Friday while discussing leadership succession within the party, emphasizing that the APC’s survival does not depend on any single individual. He noted that the party existed and remained functional long before Tinubu assumed the presidency and has continued to thrive under his leadership.
Highlighting Tinubu’s contributions, Yilwatda recalled his role in forming the APC ahead of the 2015 general elections and leading the reconciliation committee set up by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018 to resolve internal disputes. According to Yilwatda, these efforts helped unify party factions and contributed to the APC’s victory in the 2019 general elections, even though Tinubu was not president at the time.
He further stated that Tinubu would remain an influential figure in the APC after leaving office, describing him as a national leader whose experience and political network will continue to benefit the party.
Addressing concerns about the party’s strength in the North ahead of the 2027 elections, Yilwatda pointed to the results of the August 2025 by-elections. He noted that the APC secured victories in several northern states, including Kebbi, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, Kogi, and Niger, losing only one House of Assembly seat.
“These results reflect the party’s broad acceptance across regions, religions, and ethnic communities,” Yilwatda said, adding that the APC remains the most dominant political party at the grassroots level.
