APC SWEEPS CHAIRMANSHIP, COUNCILLORSHIP SEATS IN BORNO LOCAL GOVERNMENT POLLS
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all chairmanship and councilorship contests across the 27 Local Government Areas of Borno State.
Dr. Tahir Shettima, Chairman of the Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSEC), told journalists on Monday at the commission’s headquarters in Maiduguri that the elections were conducted peacefully throughout the state.
He noted that the exercise was carried out in full compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
Dr. Shettima commended all participating political parties and stakeholders, including security agencies, civil society organizations, journalists, and the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Borno State, for their contributions to the success of the elections.
He also gave special recognition to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his dedication to strengthening local democracy by approving the necessary resources to facilitate the elections.
The BOSEC chairman urged the elected officials to provide effective representation and deliver tangible benefits to the grassroots.
Governor Zulum, while casting his vote on Saturday in his hometown of Mafa, had expressed confidence in an APC victory. He emphasized that Borno remains an APC stronghold, asserting that no other party is likely to claim victory even in the 2027 general elections.
The newly elected chairmen and councillors are expected to be sworn in at a later date.
