APC SPOKESMAN HAILS TINUBU’S PERFORMANCE, SAYS PRESIDENT HAS SET NEW RECORD

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's performance in office as superior to that of previous democratically elected Nigerian presidents during their first terms.

Morka made the assessment while defending the Tinubu administration's record during an interview with Channels Television on Monday. He argued that the economic indicators under the current government showed that the country had made significant progress despite the difficult conditions inherited by the President in 2023.

According to the APC spokesperson, Tinubu assumed office at a time when Nigeria's economy was facing serious challenges. He maintained that the policies introduced by the administration had since helped improve the country's macroeconomic position.

Morka said the results of the government's policies were visible and should be used to assess the administration's performance.

He also defended the role of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a transitional leader who, in his view, helped stabilise the country before Tinubu took over the presidency in 2023.

The APC official criticised the previous Peoples Democratic Party administrations, claiming that the challenges inherited by Buhari were the result of what he described as years of poor governance.

Morka further argued that the Tinubu administration had reached a point where even some of its critics were beginning to acknowledge improvements in the economy.

He said Nigeria had moved beyond some of the major macroeconomic difficulties that confronted the country at the beginning of Tinubu's administration, pointing to the government's economic reforms as a major factor behind the change.

However, Morka did not provide a detailed comparison of specific economic indicators to substantiate his claim that Tinubu had outperformed every previous democratically elected president in their first terms.

Since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999, the country has been led by Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari and Tinubu. The first three were elected on the platform of the PDP, while Buhari and Tinubu came to power under the APC.

Tinubu was elected president in 2023 and is currently serving his first term in office. His administration has introduced several economic reforms, while also facing criticism over the impact of those measures on households and businesses.

The APC has continued to defend the government's policies, maintaining that the reforms are intended to reposition the economy and create conditions for long-term growth.

Morka's comments come as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to intensify, with the APC seeking to consolidate support for Tinubu's administration and its proposed continuation beyond the current term.

The claim is therefore likely to fuel further debate over the performance of successive Nigerian governments and the impact of Tinubu's economic policies on the country.
