APC SAYS ADC LACKS FOCUS, MATURITY OVER EDO SHOOTING CLAIM

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the opposition party as its own worst enemy.

According to the APC, the ADC does not require external interference to undermine its political fortunes, alleging that the party, led by David Mark, is already weakening itself before gaining firm political footing.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC accused ADC leaders of engaging in theatrics and deploying “dark humour” to mislead the public and attract sympathy.

The remarks followed the ADC’s claim, made in a press briefing on Wednesday, that the APC was responsible for a shooting incident involving its members in Edo State.

Responding, the APC dismissed the allegation as baseless and premature, arguing that blaming the ruling party before the conclusion of investigations by security agencies showed disregard for due process. The party said such conduct portrayed the ADC as lacking focus and acting as accuser, investigator, prosecutor and judge in its own case.

The APC further questioned the opposition party’s capacity to handle national security matters, stating that a party unable to properly manage a single incident should not be entrusted with more complex security responsibilities.

Describing the ADC’s reference to alleged “acts of terrorism” by the ruling party as reckless and unjustified, the APC said the accusation revealed desperation to stir public sentiment and gain sympathy. It also argued that the claim demonstrated insensitivity to the sacrifices of Nigerian troops combating terrorism across the country.

While condemning all forms of political violence, the APC called on law enforcement agencies to conduct a swift and thorough investigation into the Edo incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. It added that investigators should also examine internal conflicts within the ADC, alleging factional disputes and leadership struggles within the party.

The ruling party insisted it had no involvement in the shooting, stating that it remained focused on its recent electoral successes in the Federal Capital Territory municipal polls and constituency elections in Kano State and Rivers State.

The APC also thanked Nigerians for what it described as growing support for the party and expressed appreciation to voters in the affected states for their endorsement of its programmes and the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

The party reiterated its commitment to strengthening national unity and driving policies aimed at fostering stability, resilience and prosperity for all Nigerians.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
