APC REJECTS ALLEGATIONS OVER ENUGU VIOLENCE, CALLS FOR INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION
The All Progressives Congress has denied any involvement in the violence reported in Enugu State, rejecting allegations linking its members or supporters to the incident. The party described the claims as unfounded and urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to establish what happened and identify those responsible.
The APC said it was concerned about attempts to associate the party with acts of violence, particularly as political activities increase ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party maintained that it does not support violence and insisted that political disagreements should be handled through lawful and democratic channels rather than confrontation.
The party also called on relevant authorities to investigate the incident without bias and make the findings public. According to the APC, establishing the facts would help prevent misinformation and ensure that individuals responsible for any acts of violence are held accountable, regardless of their political affiliation.
The development comes amid heightened political activity in Enugu and other parts of the country as parties begin preparations for the 2027 elections. The APC urged its members and supporters to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions, while also calling on other political actors to discourage their supporters from engaging in violence.
The party said it remained committed to peaceful political participation and the rule of law. It urged security agencies to strengthen monitoring of political activities in the state and ensure that future campaigns, meetings and other political engagements are conducted in an atmosphere free from intimidation, violence and unnecessary confrontation.
