President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket for the 2027 general election after polling 10,999,162 votes in the party’s nationwide direct primaries held across 8,809 wards on Saturday.

The result was announced on Sunday by the Chairman of the Presidential Primary Elections Committee and Returning Officer, Pius Anyim, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, following collation of results from across the federation.

Tinubu defeated his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, who polled 16,503 votes in the exercise, which marked the first fully direct presidential primary in the history of the APC under the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.

According to the committee, over 11 million votes were cast from 11,069,756 accredited voters, while total registered voters stood at 12,643,330 across the country.

Tinubu, who had earlier voted in his Ikoyi-Obalende ward in Lagos, described the massive turnout as a sign of growing confidence in the APC and Nigeria’s democratic process.

In his acceptance speech, the President thanked party members for their support and pledged to run an inclusive administration while deepening ongoing economic and governance reforms.

He also extended a hand of reconciliation to political opponents, including Osifo, stressing the importance of unity within the party.

Osifo, on his part, accepted the outcome of the primaries and pledged to work with the party and the President ahead of the 2027 elections, describing the APC as “one family.”

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said the party remains confident of victory in 2027, citing strong internal participation and nationwide support for the ruling party.

The APC said reconciliation efforts are ongoing to address grievances arising from the primaries as it prepares for the general elections.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
