The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of failing to uphold democratic values in Nigeria’s electoral process.

Speaking on Thursday during a meeting with the European Union Election Observation Follow-up Mission in Abuja, PDP’s National Chairman, Umar Damagun, said that the conduct of recent elections under the APC has been tainted by irregularities.

Damagun lamented that instead of showing the spirit of democratic sportsmanship, the ruling party has allegedly embraced practices that undermine free and fair elections.

“Unfortunately, this spirit of democratic sportsmanship has not been matched by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC,” he said.

He further alleged that elections in the country continue to suffer from issues such as the abuse of state resources and security institutions, voter suppression, intimidation, vote-buying, and the deliberate subversion of electoral processes.

The PDP chairman noted that such practices, if left unchecked, threaten Nigeria’s democratic growth and erode citizens’ trust in the system.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
