The elders’ caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has urged governorship hopefuls to exercise patience before acquiring nomination forms for the 2026 election.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Elder Sola Akinwumi on Friday, the caucus said it had received the report of its Adhoc Committee on the upcoming governorship poll.

The statement noted that a Screening Committee has been set up to evaluate all aspirants within a specified timeframe and advised candidates to await the committee’s findings.

“All aspirants are urged to exercise patience in obtaining the prescribed forms until the Screening Committee submits its report to this body,” the caucus said.

The elders also encouraged party stakeholders “to remain committed to the APC as preparations intensify ahead of the election.”

The APC has scheduled its governorship primary for December 13, 2025, ahead of the August 8, 2026, state poll.

Currently, about 13 aspirants are seeking the party’s ticket, including Bola Oyebamiji, Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority; Senator Iyiola Omisore, former Deputy Governor of the state; and Senator Babajide Omoworare, former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Business.

Other contenders include Dotun Babayemi, former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, Dr. Peter Babalola, Akin Ogunbiyi, and legal practitioner Kunle Adegoke.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
