APC DEFENDS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, COUNTERS CRITICISM BY DAVID MARK, ADC
The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised comments credited to former Senate President David Mark and other leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during the launch of the party’s membership mobilisation, registration, and revalidation exercise in Umuahia.
At the event on Saturday, the ADC National Chairman—represented by National Welfare Secretary Nkem Ukandu—alleged that the APC-led Federal Government lacks direction and has abandoned Nigerians amid worsening economic hardship.
In a swift response, the Abia APC Caucus dismissed the claims as misleading and politically motivated, accusing the ADC and the former Senate President of attempting to sway public opinion through rhetoric.
“We strongly reject the misleading narrative that the APC-led Federal Government lacks direction and has abandoned Nigerians to hardship,” the caucus stated.
The party maintained that Nigeria is undergoing critical economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at stabilising the economy, strengthening the naira, promoting local production, and ensuring long-term sustainability.
The Abia APC also argued that individuals who have held top leadership positions over the years should not distance themselves from long-standing structural challenges confronting the nation.
Responding to allegations of plans to undermine free and fair elections, the caucus reaffirmed its commitment to credible electoral processes and rejected claims of manipulation.
“Our party believes in healthy competition based on ideas and performance, not unfounded allegations. Electoral and public finance institutions operate independently within constitutional limits, and sweeping claims of manipulation without evidence only erode public confidence,” the statement added.
