APC CRITICIZES GOV. ADELEKE’S TWO-WEEK ABSENCE, OSUN GOVT RESPONDS
Osun APC Questions Governor Adeleke’s Absence as Govt Says He’s in the U.S. for Davido’s Wedding
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over the two-week absence of Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing him of abandoning his duties without officially informing the public or handing over to his deputy.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Osogbo by the APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the party described Adeleke’s silence and unannounced trip as “abnormal” and “suspicious.”
“It is wrong for Governor Adeleke to disappear without notifying the citizens or the legislature. We need to know who has been running Osun in his absence,” the APC said.
The party also questioned whether Adeleke formally transmitted power to his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, in line with constitutional requirements.
Adding to the criticism, the APC claimed that Adeleke’s absence follows his alleged failed attempt to defect to the APC, suggesting the timing of the trip may not be coincidental.
In a swift response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that the governor is currently in the United States to attend the wedding of his nephew, music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
Rasheed dismissed the APC’s concerns as “political mischief,” noting that Governor Adeleke has not taken a formal vacation since assuming office in November 2022.
“Governor Adeleke left Nigeria for the United States via the family’s private jet a few days ago for the wedding of the global music icon, his beloved nephew, David Adeleke,” Rasheed stated.
“He remains in constant communication with his deputy, who is overseeing state affairs in his absence.”
In a lighthearted jab, Rasheed even invited the opposition party to “share in the joy of the Adeleke family” — either in person or virtually.
He assured residents that the governor’s trip is short and that he will soon return to continue his duties.
