The All Progressives Congress has congratulated four of its candidates who emerged victorious in the legislative bye-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission on September 19, 2026. The polls covered one federal constituency and four state constituencies across Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states, with the APC winning four of the five available seats. The Allied Peoples Movement secured the remaining seat in Bauchi State.

The APC candidates declared winners were Kallamu Usman MaiJama’a of the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Husseini Datti of the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano, Okolosi Ator of the Udu State Constituency in Delta and Yakubu Ali of the Disina State Constituency in Bauchi. APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, congratulated the four lawmakers and acknowledged the contributions of party members, campaign teams, voters, electoral officials and security agencies to the conduct of the elections.

The results showed Kallamu securing 41,121 votes in Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye, well ahead of the Labour Party’s 3,553 votes and the APM’s 872. In Kano, Datti won Dawakin Kudu with 22,890 votes, while the Peoples Redemption Party and Peoples Democratic Party recorded 270 and 108 votes respectively. Ator polled 8,724 votes to win Udu in Delta, where the PDP received 214 votes, while Ali secured Disina in Bauchi with 5,846 votes against APM’s 5,225 and PRP’s 3,701.

The fifth contest, held in Sakwa State Constituency of Bauchi, was won by APM candidate Adamu Yakubu, who received 8,515 votes. The APC candidate came second with 3,771 votes, while the PDP and PRP recorded 2,076 and 727 votes respectively. The outcome means that the APC secured one federal legislative seat and three state assembly seats, while the APM took one state constituency.

Yilwatda described the victories as evidence of the confidence placed in the party and its candidates by voters, while urging the newly elected lawmakers to regard their victories as a responsibility to serve their constituents. He also commended INEC and the security agencies for their roles in the elections. INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, said the September 19 bye-elections would provide operational lessons for the commission as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
