The All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP), and six other political parties have collected access codes from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the submission of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The access codes will enable the participating parties to upload and manage the nomination details of their candidates through INEC’s designated online portal in accordance with the electoral timetable.

According to the commission, the process is part of its preparations to ensure a seamless, transparent, and efficient nomination exercise before the elections.

INEC urged all political parties to comply strictly with the guidelines, timelines, and legal requirements governing candidate nominations to avoid administrative or legal complications.

The commission also reminded parties to ensure that all submitted information is accurate, complete, and consistent with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Political analysts described the distribution of the access codes as an important administrative milestone in the build-up to the 2027 elections.

They noted that early preparations by both INEC and political parties could help reduce last-minute challenges during the nomination process.

Stakeholders have called on political parties to conduct transparent and credible primary elections that reflect democratic principles and promote internal party cohesion.

The development signals the gradual commencement of activities leading to the next general elections as political parties intensify their preparations.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a credible electoral process through the effective use of technology and strict adherence to electoral laws.
